Unfortunately, the system for supporting children with special needs has become complex and many children do not receive the education they are legally entitled to.
Hawthorn helps parents understand the relevant legislation and offers practical guidance on how to engage successfully with schools, local authorities and tribunals. We do this by offering a telephone and video advice line service, an EHCP 'healthcheck' service and bespoke packages of support.

Kim is a former local government ombudsman investigator, local authority chair for Independent Review Panels for permanent school exclusions and paralegal.

Kim holds a post-graduate law degree (GDL) and has extensive voluntary experience with legal advice charities supporting parents of children with special educational needs.
​
As the parent of a child with special needs Kim understands the complexities of these matters from both a professional and personal perspective.
